What we do

Accessibility is part of how these pages are built rather than something added at the end. In practice that means:

• Every page starts with a “Skip to content” link, and headings run in order so a screen reader can move through a page by structure.
• Everything you can do with a mouse can be done with a keyboard, and the item you are on is always visibly outlined.
• Text is checked against a 4.5:1 contrast minimum, including small print and the colour used for labels.
• Photographs carry descriptions of what is happening in them. Decorative shapes are hidden from screen readers so they do not clutter the reading order.
• If your device is set to reduce motion, the animated parts of the site stop. The staff carousel becomes a plain list of everyone, with nothing removed.
• Nothing plays sound on its own, and nothing moves that you cannot pause by hovering or focusing it.
• Pages are laid out down to a 375 pixel screen without a horizontal scrollbar, and text can be enlarged without content being cut off.
• The map on our contact page is not loaded until you ask for it, so the page stays light and no third party is contacted first.

How we check

Every public page is scanned with axe-core against its WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA rule sets, in two different browser engines, at screen widths from 375 pixels to 1600. At the last review, all eight public pages returned no violations in either engine. Keyboard operation and focus order are checked by hand.

What we do not claim

Automated testing catches a great deal, but it cannot catch everything, and no independent audit of this site has been carried out. So we are describing what we build and test rather than certifying the result, and we are not claiming conformance with any particular standard or regulation. If something here does not work for you, that is a problem worth hearing about regardless of what a test reports.
